The 69th annual meeting of the Meteoritical Society will be held in the main building of ETH in Zurich, Switzerland, from 06 - 11 August , 2006.

The economic and cultural importance of Zürich is much larger than one might expect for a town of only some 400,000 inhabitants, hence its attribute "Little Big City". The old town dates back to the Celts and Romans. Zürich is beautifully situated at Lake Zürich and surrounded by hills formed during glacial times. On clear days, the Alps can be seen. The University of Zürich and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) are the two largest universities in Switzerland and regularly occupy top positions in international rankings.

Location: The oral and poster sessions will be held in the main building of ETH, an impressive 19th century building by the famous german architect Gottfried Semper. The meeting venue is very close to the city center and within a few minutes walking distance to most of the recommended hotels.

Transportation: The Zürich Intercontinental Airport is some 10-15 minutes from the main train station (Zürich Hauptbahnhof or Zürich HB for short), and trains from and to the airport run in 10-15 minutes intervals. Being in the heart of Europe, Zürich is also well served by international trains. From Hauptbahnhof a 5-10 minutes walk will bring you to the meeting venue. Most places of interest are also within walking distance or can be reached by an excellent public transportation system. Public transportation network map (Download PDF-File 424 KB)

Weather: Weather in Central Europe is notoriously unpredictable and Zürich certainly is no exception. Daytime temperatures in early August are often in the 25°C range (around 80°F) with much sun and mild evenings. It would be no surprise, however, if it were hotter during the meting and even less so if it were cooler with occasional rain. Water temperatures in the lake usually are around 23-26°C in early August. So pack your swim suit but don't forget an umbrella.
